The Folly, Radlett, Hertfordshire
A Memory of Radlett.
My family worked at the Folly House in the 1700's and 1800's. They lived in a row of the farm cottages. Their surname was Hawtry and although there are now only two cottages remaining, there is a road off Watling Street called The Hawtrees, spelt rather differently but named after the family. One of my relatives Thomas Hawtry climbed out of his bedroom window and took himself to Canada. There he changed his name to Thomas Bradshaw and was involved in the construction of a railway crossing Canada.
