My Heaven.

A Memory of Rake.

I was born in Rake on 30:12:1937. This was in my grandparents house. Rake Cottage. My grandfather used to drive for a lady called Mrs Oliver. So was given the cottage to live in for the rest of his life. My father was also born on the corner of Hatch Lane. My dream holidays when growing up were spent in Rake. My father used to take me for long walks down the Combe. Picking primroses, or Hazel nuts and Chestnuts. My father’s brother Eddie, his wife Winnie and Daughter Joan. Also his sister Annie we called her Nan for some reason! Her husband Fred Kertcher, and their son Harry, also lived by the church in Rake. My grandfather and her son Harry used to sing in the choir at Miland church. When Harry died he left his money to the church. Harry has written a very big book. I haven’t read much of it. But the story seems to be around the Rake area. My cousin Joan, who now lives in Australia, wanted the book! But it is was too heavy to send so I took it. Part of it is roughly typed out but a bit of it is hand written. I had forgotten about the book until I recently moved into a retirement flat. Now I am wondering what to do with it as he must have been writing it for some time. Perhaps you might be able to help me. As it must be a very interesting story and maybe a bit historical. Please let me know. Thank you.
