More about this scene

By the 1960s there has been much rebuilding, but Broad Street is still recognisable. The market entrance has yet to be demolished, and Marks and Spencers has not yet replaced the buildings to its left. To the right of the K Shoe Shop is a corner of Heelas' store, a noted local department store, now part of John Lewis.

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I left Reading to live in the West Midlands when this photo was taken in 1965. I believe the trolley buses were still running then. Does anyone remember the pet shop with the rabbits in their hutches outside? Josie LLewelyn
