More about this scene
This view looks towards St Lawrence's church. The structure behind the drinking fountain is the Simeon Monument, 'erected and lighted for ever at the expense of Edward Simeon as a mark of affection to his native town' in 1804. A former Governor of the Bank of England, he commissioned the bank's architect Sir John Soane to produce this superb monument.
