More about this scene
Palmer Park was laid out on land bought for the town by George Palmer in the 1880s, and his statue, formerly in the town centre, is now in the park. The park is just one of the philanthropic actions of the local 'biscuit baron' whose firm, Huntley and Palmer, revolutionised 19th-century biscuit manufacture.
