More about this scene

None of these buildings survived the 1960s. The one with the clock was Hopkins, a jeweller's shop, but in the early 20th century it had been Liptons, one of the first chain grocers, a forerunner of today's supermarkets. On the left of the picture is The Talbot, built in 1926 on the site of an earlier inn, The Vine.

I recall this photo being taken.  I am looking into a shop window of Hollington's.  I am wearing a cream coloured coat and clutching my handbag!  Happy memories of Old Redditch.
I worked at Rainscourts at the rear on Fridays after school and Saturday mornings, preparing food for the shop.Tthe manager was Mr Whitehouse, a good boss and alround nice chap.. happy days. The shop was to the right of picture.
I remember Evesham Street in Redditch in the early sixties very well. I was 15, had just left school, and was working at Liptons the grocers which was about half way up on the left just past the department store. There was a small chapel just opposite and also other grocery stores: Farrands, George Masons, the Home & Colonial stores.
