More about this scene

The King's Head's three doorways can be seen, and the inn-signs of a carved bunch of grapes and a portrait of King Charles II. The hotel bedrooms extend over Woolworth's next door, Richmond's first chain store; it arrived c1935 and moved in 1980 to Bailey House, visible at the bottom of the Market Place. Local businesses have now been joined by Fine Fare (centre) and, extreme right, Walter Willson's.

I Remember Richmond
I attended the Frenchgate School (1954). The head mistress was Nan Woodwark, a tall Viking of a woman who would oftentimes speak of her Norse heritage. I managed to find her obit on a website I came across. She lived to the age of 96 and was buried at a cemetery in Darlington. Apparently her parents had been missionaries in the Far East. Trinity Church Richmond Marketplace
you would struggle to get this clear view today as the number of parked cars etc.would obscure the view the chuch is now home to the Green Howards regimental museum

Convent Of The Assumtion School

I was born in Richmond the year 1945 attending the Convent from 1950 till 1959. The street I grew up on was named Westfields and it looked down over the fields right onto the school. My brother has added some of his memories below Bill Mather. My name is Anne Mather-Alsip

My Family
My mother, was born in 8, Millgate in 1908. In this image, the lady is standing in the doorway of the house is my grandmother, Elizabeth Smith and the man standing outside may possibly be my grandad, David Smith. My family still lived in that house in the late 60's - my mother's sister Mildred Brown (nee Smith) and her husband Fred Brown. I live in hartlepool, I went there with my sisters when we were young.

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
