More about this scene

Richmond, the 'capital' of Swaledale, has been described as one of the most perfect market towns in England. This view of its sloping, circular, cobbled Market Place was taken from the tower of Holy Trinity Church, now a museum for the Green Howards Regiment from nearby Catterick Garrison.

In my youth I looked out on this view many times from the Castle Keep. We lived on Westfields Road which can just be seen over to the left of the picture.
