Batchworth Lake is the easternmost of a chain of four lakes west of the town and sandwiched between the Grand Union Canal and the River Colne. They are flooded gravel pits and one, Stockers Lake, is a nature reserve. In 1921 Batchworth Lake, being nearest the town, was already used for recreation with rowing boats and yachts. Nowadays it is more trendily named Rickmansworth Aquadrome, now incorporating Bury Lake which is used for swimming and Batchworth for water sports, including sailing and water skiing.

Swiss Coffee House Rickmansworth
I used to visit the Swiss Coffee House after rowing on the aquadrome or reading in the library. Always looked forward to it. Good coffee, nice food. Really good days, somehow I knew they were good days at the time, and I would look back on them with great fondness.

Strawberry Fields (Record Shop) High Street
I used to enjoy a visit to Strawberry Fields. I remember you could buy a little pack of five CD singles for a £1.00. They were in a sealed bag so you got a surprise. The last CD I bought was by Mike and the Mechanics. I always enjoyed my visit.

Aquadrome
I used to work at Heathrow and after early shift I sometimes made my way in my mini van to the aquadrome. I would hire a metal rowing boat and row and just drift. How wonderful was that. This was around 1970. Afterwards I would walk around the lake and perhaps go to the Swiss Coffee House.

Saturday Morning Sing Song At The Odeon.
Do you remember "Uncle Harry" he used to conduct the sing songs every saturday, during the week he was the local bill board sticker man. I can remember the song that we used to sing just before the films were to start. ............It went something like this...... Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
