More about this scene
Mount Falinge was built by James Royds around 1800. The family were woollen merchants, who employed weavers working in their own cottages such as Bentmeadows. Alderman Sir Samuel Turner purchased Mount Falinge with 18 acres of grounds for the town in 1902 to mark Edward VII`s coronation. The final cost to him was £14,000. Mount Falinge was damaged by fire in 1975 and only the facade and terrace remain.
