More about this scene

Facing the railway station is this unusual Catholic church, dedicated to St John the Baptist. Completed in 1925, its most striking external feature, the central dome, is said to be a quarter of a mile in circumference. Inside, the sanctuary contains a magnificent mosaic depicting Christ the King and John the Baptist.

Mozaics
I lived just a few hundred yards from St John's Church and attended mass every Sunday as well as Stations of the Cross or Benediction on Sunday Nights. There is an amazing area of mozaic behind the altar. I also attended the school from about 1946 - 1950 when I moved to St Patricks followed by Bury Convent. I was Marcia Tassiker then. My dad used to take photgraphs of the Whitsuntide processions and put them in our hardware shop window for people to buy.

On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
