More about this scene
This was described as an ancient common way in 1702, when it led to Lower Yates, New House and orchards or walks. Walter Vavasour built the block of buildings forming the Walk in the early 1800s, partly on the site of the yard of Eagle Inn. The Vavasours, who were woollen merchants and built Butts House, also built the former iron footbridge leading to the Walk in 1824.
