More about this scene
The iron bridge, raised in 1914, carries the London road over the River Medway into Rochester; it replaced the old stone bridge, which had stood a little further upstream by the Bridge Chapel. It was demolished in 1856, having been constructed between 1387-92 by two knights who had enriched themselves in the service of the Black Prince.
