Romford Market concentrated on livestock on Wednesdays although there were always some general traders to serve the stockmen and farmers. Saturday offered a general market and Friday also became a day for miscellaneous traders.

Found this memory from Marlene Bennett i to lived i warren drive went to benhurst school remembered MR Tew Miss McDonald Mrs Nelson who I was terrified of used to make all sorts of excuses not to go to school ,we used to play over the park a lovely place then cornfields woods the river that we used to jump ,unfortunaly it is not like it now , there was a paddling pool there it was a treat for us to go there ...see more
Mum and Dad took me from Elm Park to Romford where I became lost in the Romford market! I remember being sat upon a stall by a policeman where I was found by my parents! I barely remember all of it!!! We lived on Warren Drive in Elm Park! Marlene (nee) Bennett. I live on Vancouver Island now
My mother used to take me from Hornchurch on the 66 bus when i was a small child. She always went to Lous' stall opposite the cinema (flea pit as we called it) She knew him well and could rely on him. We would go and see the cattle being weighed and the sheep and pigs being tagged ready for sale. It was always very busy and noisy but i really enjoyed going.
