More about this scene
In 1247 King Henry III granted Romford a charter permitting a livestock market to be held in the town every Wednesday. It provided a centre on the Essex Great Road where sheep and cattle farmers in the area could sell their stock. The Wednesday cattle market continued for over 700 years, the final one being held in 1958.
