We The Harris Family Lived In 86 Dagenham Road
A Memory of Romford.
Hi all,
I was born at No 86 Dagenham Road which at the time was Harris and.sons Greengrocers shop born in 1943 and lived there until1961.
My Brothers Richard John and Norman used to manage the shop until my Mother Violet Gladys Harris sold it to my Aunt Nell and cousins Tony and Peter Butler.
The butchers shop next door to us across the arch was the coop and managed by Mr Charlie Kitchener his youngest son was in fact Barry Kitchener a well known footballer who played for mill wall for most of his career.
I myself used to carry out paper rounds for both Murray's and Evans corner shops so I got around The Rush green area quite a bit in my youth.
I managed to make my own bike out of scraps to do the paper rounds and the money I earn I bought my very first new Hercules Harlequin bike from Sisselys across the road to our shop.
The old place has not changed too much over the years as I visit my sister in Philip ave on occasions.
Best wishes all
Ken Harris

My mum & Nan were both born in the house (1948 &1920 respectively , the corner of our house was damaged in the blast and it was said that if my great grandmother had been sleeping upstairs in her bedroom & not downstairs, she would not have survived.
Our house was built in 1903 and was one of the farm cottages to Thorntons farm.My Nan was Joyce Clarry (Nee Barrett) & My mum Marion. I have been trying to find photos of the house and surrounding area, but there doesn't seem to be any. If you have any photos I would love to see them.
