Ashhurst Way Memories

A Memory of Rose Hill.

I was brought up from the age of two living in 63 Ashhurst Way and what lovely memories I have got. I was brought up in a large family. A lot of people I can remember are no longer with us and the friends I had Tony Plowman, Reagan Kingston, Ian Edwards, Kenneth Hawksworth, Norman Davies I would love to be in contact with again. I can remember playing Cowboys and Indians in the field at the bottom of Lambourne Road, (which is now where Sainsburys and the ring road is) with Tony and other friends. The lovely families who lived there kept their homes and gardens neat and tidy. Now with Jersey Road and Asquith Road how things have changed dramatically for the worst. I sometimes reminisce going back to my old house via Asquith Road and up Jersey Road and how things have changed and I feel so sad when I see the state of the place. We lived in a five bedroomed house and things were hard but we kept our house tidy. I was well dressed and fed but now it is so different in that area. I can remember the old wooden community centre that was burned down by a certain person who lived in Spencer Crescent. When I started going to the new community centre at the Oval I joined the craft club making planes from Balsa wood. All told what lovely memories I have got, people were happier then than now although there wasn't much money around. When I got married, Asquith Road had one good end and one bad end and I was lucky enough to buy a house in the good end, number 20. I built a single garage at the side and a porch at the front, kept the garden tidy, built a fence and kept it painted white. Now its all rack and ruin. I hope the friends mentioned will contact me.
