From a book my sister left me I chose Rosedale Abbey as my destination on my first journey through England. I was alone and took the train to York in 1971. From there I went to Whitby and then the moorland train to Lealholm Bridge and slept in the churchyard. I was 21. I am the current owner of Rosella Cottage which is shown at the very far left edge of this photograph. Interestingly, the address is no longer known as Bridge Street. The cottage has been completely renovated in 2013 for probably the first time since this photograph was taken in the 1960's. In 1959, when I was 8 years old I was fostered along with my brother and sister and went to live in Rosedale Abbey. Actually it was just outside Rosedale Abbey, in School Row.
