Holiday Huts At Bogany Farm/Canada Hill
A Memory of Rothesay.
My parents had a holiday cabin (hut) on Bogany Farm when Archie Kirkwood was the farmer. Most of my summer holidays from birth until the mid-70s was spent there
Many days were spent fishing for perch and pike at Loch Ascog. Mentored by Archie and Danny; brothers who were skilful anglers. The evenings were spent at campfires with singing, storytelling and shaping our identity.
I recall friends such as Alex R, Andrea T, Andy H, David G and John C. The Bald brothers took me to Loch Ascog and taught me how to fish. There was a kind man called Joe O'Neil.
Sadly, the huts( shepherd's huts) were demolished in the 70s due to sanitation issues. I'm not so sure "progress" is progress. I am reminded of those words in E.M. Forster's book, Howard's End:
"Because a thing is going strong now, it need not go strong for ever,” Margaret said. “This craze for motion has only set in during the last hundred years. It may be followed by a civilization that won’t be a movement, because it will rest upon the earth.”
I wrote a few stories about those days on my blog at wiseprose.com

I recall many pals: Andy H, John C, Andrea T, David G and Alex R who must be in the 65-70 age group as I write this in 2021.
I can still smell the septic tank where we emptied the weeks takings. In hot weather it reminded me of driving past the Govan sewage.
