More about this scene
Rothley lies some five miles to the north of Leicester, and to the west of the busy A6. Although close to the River Soar, it was not until the arrival of the railway that it began to expand. The camera looks at the mundane, suburban face of the village as Woodgate drops down to Cross Green. The shop fronts in the left-hand row have retained much of their original quality, but Flair, the ladies' hairstylist (right), has made the alterations which were regrettably to become the hallmark of the decade. Even the car parking is beginning to lurch towards the need for yellow lines, and all that goes with them.
