More about this scene

Here the photographer looks north along the High Street, towards its junction with Bridge Street to the right, and Desborough Road curving left. The proudly pedimented Midland Bank is now Peter M Ayres clothes shop while R Walker on the left has become Alistair Mackay's antiques and clocks. The Crown Hotel is unchanged and still retains its attractive and unusual hanging sign.

A Selection of Memories from Rothwell

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Rothwell

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I visited the Bluebell Inn and spent only a modest amount, however I left half a crown as a tip because of a very nice waitress. I left and had walked about two blocks, when the lady chased me down to thank me. I was quite surprised at this, but managed to remain calm and smiled graciously. Told her that if I came again to the Bluebell, I would surely look her up.
