More about this scene
Roughlee Lake was once a popular local day out. The lake, originally the reservoir for the cotton mill at the far end, was used for boating and swimming, whilst sunbathers and picnickers enjoyed its wooded banks. Below the lake, a small menagerie, pony rides and swingboats provided other entertainments. After closing in the 1970s, the lake is now a trout fishery.
