At this time practically all the ships operating out of Dartmouth were powered by coal. This was brought in by colliers and transferred to hulks moored in the river, from where it was handled manually by 'lumpers'.

My Nan lived at 1, Hilltop Cottage Rowledge. It was a tiny rented cottage that had been occupied by my family for over 140 years until my Nan passed away in 1970. I think that the cottage was along Boundstone Road but I am not sure.
My grandfather was a bricklayer as was his father.
If anyone has any memories or photos to share it would be very much appreciated.
Does anyone know the history of Lodge Pond, my family were Brickmakers and had a brick kiln nearby, we think the pond was created by them digging the clay. I would love to have any opinions.
I think this is Cumpsteys Corner where the hairdresses and butchers is. God, it's changed.
