More about this scene
The mellow gritstone walls of the Peacock Hotel, on the A6 about four miles north of Matlock, are a landmark to visitors coming into the Peak District from the south. The inn dates from the mid 17th century; it was originally a manor house for the agent to the Manners family at nearby Haddon Hall as we can see from their peacock crest over the porch.
