More about this scene
The buildings on the corner here date from the 1860s. Notice the white building on the left with the fine windows. In the 1960s it was home to a branch of the Runcorn and Widnes Industrial Co-Operative Society. The Co-Operative movement began just over the Mersey, in Lancashire, in the 1840s and rapidly spread throughout the industrial heartlands of northern England.
