The transporter bridge and the railway viaduct. In this picture we see the Manchester Ship Canal with the Mersey immediately beyond it. We can also see how the transporter sat in relation to the Ship Canal, and that it was essential for the transporter operator to keep a sharp look-out for shipping in order to avoid a collision.
