Rushton is famous in the county for its connection with the Tresham family. They built nearby Rushton Hall. Francis Tresham became one of the Gunpowder Plot conspirators, and approached his uncle Sir Thomas Tresham for financial help. Another notable building associated with this family is Triangular Lodge, an exuberant folly which was designed as an emblem of the Trinity.
