More about this scene
The houses on the left were built in the late 15th century, before oak grew scarcer. Hence the heavy, narrow-spaced timber- framing. The Eight Bells, on the right, was built as a private house in the 16th century. Its carved bressumers are original. The inn's name moved here from Hill Street in the 1840s.
