Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

More about this scene

On the left is Barclays Bank, next to the Rose and Crown, which was gutted by fire in 1969. Later, when the frontage was demolished, the over-portal was saved; it is now incorporated into a building behind. The bunch of grapes sign now hangs outside Boots, which now occupies the site - surely the only chemist so adorned. The Poultry Sale Yard entrance on Market Hill is the wide doorway beyond the awning, right of centre.

The Rose & Crown
I have lived in Saffron Walden all my life - was born at SW Hospital - we lived in Audley End then. My most vivid memory is of the tragic fire at the Rose & Crown Hotel in the market Square (now Boots), I think it was Christmas night/boxing day morning of 1970 when 11 people sadly lost their lives. Old Boarding School
Hi, My sister and I were at a boarding school in the early to mid 1960's in Saffron Walden does anyone know it's name, I think my mum use to refer to it as audley end but looking at the pictures that seems a lot bigger than I remember. They were not great memories it was a harsh environment and by today's standards almost Victorian. Thanks Steve

Cornwallis Place Near Sheds Lane Saffron Walden Essex England
any one remember the walkers that lived in Cornwallis place,i believe patsy walker lived there,now deceased.but her husband tony calver originally from stortford.still lives in little walden road.and yes I also remember the prefabs,i had a friend there Sheila philipson,who I believe lives in the states some where,i also live in the states,would love to know who ever ...see more

My First Job.Early 60`s
My very first job while still at school was working at Harts Printers as a delivery boy. I delivered cards and packs of headed paper to a lot of the company's in S.W. My delivery method was by means of a large bike with a large metal basket in front. small wheel in front and no gears, it got pushed more than ridden ( especially up Debden rd./ Mount Pleasant. ). Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
