More about this scene
We are looking north-west, with St Mary's left of centre. The row of houses on this side of the Common vary from the 14th to the 19th century. The ruined Castle stands at the end of the path behind the trees. These elms trees fell victim to the scourge of the Dutch elm disease in the 1970s.
