More about this scene
This view is looking down from the road bridge; things have changed greatly at Sandy. The line on the left, beyond the trees, is the London and North Western Railway Cambridge to Bletchley line that was closed in 1968. The right-hand station is the Great Northern line, later the LNER, and its station buildings largely remain. The island platform and the LNWR station in the background were removed: there are now four tracks with overhead electric supply lines for the high-speed East Coast Main Line trains, which thunder through on their way to York and Edinburgh.
