More about this scene
The large white building is the Hean Castle Hotel, previously the Picton Castle Hotel, and still a popular hostelry in the village. George Borrow, author of Wild Wales, stayed here in 1857. The Castle Stores (right) was owned by Thomas McLoughlin, brother of Harry who owned the motor and cycle depot, and supplied such temptations as 'fresh fruit, vegetables, sweetmeats, soda fountain and delicious ices'.
