Sawley, The Village 1921

More about this scene
Photographed from the Yorkshire bank of the Ribble, the view looks across Sawley to Noddle Hill. The large building at the centre is the Spread Eagle, an inn since the 16th century and probably belonging to the abbey before then. Its riverside location made the pub a popular venue and it was considerably extended during the 1960s to provide a comfortable restaurant.
