More about this scene
Further along the High Street, we see the Black Bull (left) with the White Lion in the distance. The Black Bull opened in 1687, and was altered in the 18th century. The number of inns in Sawston is proof of its importance: it was on the coaching routes between Cambridge and London, and from Norwich to the south-west.
