A Lowestoft-registered fishing boat slips out to sea unnoticed by the anglers on the harbour. In the background is the imposing, if somewhat overpowering, edifice of the Grand Hotel. By 1920 Scarborough could boast no less than ten top hotels, including the 100-bedroom Pavilion and the 160-bedroom Manor Private. The telephone number for the Grand was Scarborough 11.
