More about this scene
Along with Roker, Seaburn comprises what is in effect the seaside resort area of Sunderland, and there have been times when the Cat and Dog steps have positively heaved with sunbathers. A popular attraction during the 1950s were the annual lights along the front and in Roker Park. Those who wanted an inexpensive holiday could book into Seaburn Camp, which even as late as 1960 looked like a film set from a prisoner of war movie, but with flowerbeds.
