This road is typical of the building projects that were conducted after the Second World War.
Common Road was one of the early developments. It comes off Hursley Road, and descends to a stream crossed by a ford where the water might be so deep that food suppliers could not get across.
What was a quiet semi- rural turning has become a busy road junction, complete with road widening and traffic lights.
Fore Street, leading into the A350 Trowbridge Road, is now a very busy road in and out of town.
Wash Road was a road of many farms: Watch-House, Mundell's, Petchey's, Benson's, Puckle's, Sellers, and Laindonponds.
To the west of Castor lies Ermine Street, a Roman road; excavations have shown that the village is built over a large Roman estate.
This view looks east, and shows the bridge across Grange Vale, a road that connects the Brighton Road with the residential areas of Grange Road, Worcester Road and Mulgrave Road.
The coming of the Heads of the Valleys Road greatly changed the landscape of this area. Today this busy road is rarely as quiet as this.
