Rakes Lane goes off to the right.
Here we see an imaginative and creative new use for a selection of discarded farm implements, including a scythe, sickles, hay rake, spades, ploughshare and pitchforks, which has become a minor curiosity
There have been recent alterations to this junction between Rake and Station Roads.
Note the hay rake, coal-scuttles and assortment of piping and rope adorning the window of the local ironmongers in the centre of Lyndhurst.
In case of fire, there were very long rakes which could remove the burning roof.

The photograph was taken from Rake Corner, where there is a delightful thatched cottage.
The new church now stands on the highest point of Hilary's Brow, and was built from stone donated by Mrs Maddock from her quarry in Rake Lane.
Note that the foremast stands vertical, whilst the mizzen has a distinctive forward rake.

There are numerous accounts of the destruction caused and carnage wreaked by a warship crossing the stern of another and raking it with gunfire at close quarters.
This is gripped by wheels that ensure the car stays on the rails, and by brake shoes that provide additional braking on the line's severe gradients.
Furthermore, we can see a row of horse-drawn brakes, which shows that the tourist trade was expanding.

The horse-drawn brakes in the foreground were used by sightseers - a trip round the harbour was an essential ingredient of a Ramsgate holiday.
Next to the front door on the left is a baking oven that projects outside the cottage from the ingle-nook fireplace.
