Brewers Arms Horndean.

Fred Farmer, my father, had the Brewers Arms at the top of the hill, just before going down hill into Horndean. Just opposite the pub was a small school and to the end of WW2 a German aircraft crashed into the roof. Would anyone know of this good old pub?

The Dell

My childhood memories of Edmundbyers have been with me all my life really. My mum & dad, aunty, uncle and cousin used to holiday in a tiny caravan on farmer Edon Sanderson's field. This was before the Derwent Reservoir was built. ...Read more

Wakefield Clarence Park

I 'lived' in Clarence Park for years when I was a kid. It became my magic Kingdom! I knew every bush and tree and secret trail through the bushes. I would lurk in the bushes and spy on people walking past. I had a ...Read more

Memories Of St Anne's 1957 1962

Lower Street And Up To The Village From Dover

I believe this is called Lower Street and behind us is Dover Road, and a turn to the east to Northbourne and Deal or a walk to the cricket ground at Updown. Behind, to the left, is Buttsole Pond where ...Read more

Going Down And 3 Miles To Sandwich

Again, we notice Eastry is set atop a hill and the Roman Road continues its way down and along to Sandwich. On the way are Dutch sounding place names such as Felderland Lane. The land is very flat and it wouldn't ...Read more

Whatever Happened To The High Street?

We were sent as children occasionally, from Child's Hill to Sainsbury's on Golders Green Road. Ladies in uniforms, behind glass fronted counters, cut cheese and sliced ham to order. Everything else also ...Read more

Sense Of History

There is a sense of history by walking along Church Street with its deep guttering, for the times when and where horses were the transport and along to the Church, the Palace Of Eastry, Eastry Court and then Eastry farm and the C. ...Read more
