Scale Street

A Memory of Seedley.

I grew up in Alpha street! And I used to shop at the corner shop in scale street! From 1972-1978! Does any body have any photos! I would so love to see this shop once again! Xx

Scales Street Seedley Salford 6
I was born at 22 Scales Street in 1950 My mum was Doris and my dad was Walter Taaffe. Mum was a Londoner who married my dad in 1945 in London. They met in Bournemouth where dad was stationed and mum had been evacuation with the staff of the Home Office. I had a younger sister Barbara. I remember many happy hours playing the the street - Marion Ball and her family lived opposite next door to Mrs Oron (her grandma). Then there was Rosalind and her sister opposite the shop, Philip O'Keefe between them and us. The other end of the the street was where Tony Maher and his mum Margaret and dad Bill. There was also an older brother Alec who married another street resident and honeymooned at Butlins' and broke his arm on the roller skating rink! Opposite Tony and his family was Dave Berry and his family. Barbara Fayne and her family lived between us and Tony

At the opposite end of the street diagonally opposite the shop where Phil got his beer was a green grocer who delivered our fruit and veg every Friday evening. (They carried on delivering even when we moved to Gore Avenue in 1962.).

At the end of the street was Langworthy Rd School - mixed infants at one end and then junior boys downstairs with a playground at the back and the girls upstairs and they used the front playground.
