Chapel Street Didn't Exist Until The Late 1820s
Chapel street was instated when the then-time landowner who built his country house - latterly the police station, and put Chapel Street in place to link Duke (firm Duck St) with the High Road to prevent byway over what was to become his garden. Thank you, John Peart! Sandy Yatteau Sep 2015

What Was Going On At The Stables?
The area behind 15 Chapel St (formerly Derek Jordans Solicitors) was at one time infilled between the rear of that building and the back of the Golden Lion pub. The buildings there have altered since this photo was taken, and will have altered even more significantly 70-80 years begire when Ashfield and the Zpolice Station were built (latter 1832) because Chapel Street itself dudn't exist until then. Basement Window Casements At Derek Jordans To Help With Refurb

My Fathers Daimler Settle Market Place 1960
The car with the upright radiator parked in front of Franklands, with a small Austin van alongside was my fathers Daimler, it was a dark blue in colour and had what today are called suicide door's for they all opened backwards unlike today's cars (2015) Peter Blackburn, formerly Craven Arms Hotel, Giggleswick

Queens Rock Swimming Place

This early picture of Settle shows the River Ribble as it bypasses the South/West of the actual town, the Bridge in the middle left carries the A65 trunk road which then ran through the very center of Settle, and was the main route between Leeds , Skipton, Settle and on to Lancaster and Kendal, the area to the bottom left are farmers Fields , you can pick out the footpath which still exists today, the Ribble ...see more

This Was What The School Looked Like Roughly.In 1951, The Year I Started.There.
The building on the left would be the caretaker's house We got off the bus near there and walked round to the middle of these buildings to enter the school. I think the tree on the left is the one our art teacher asked us to look at to see how many colours we could find, not just brown and green. That memory has stayed with me and has helped me to look ...see more

Cn Anyone Help
I am looking for old photos or memories of the Co-op in Settle just before the Second World War. My grandad (who I never met) was the manager of the Co-op before going off to war. His name was Leslie Benson from Willow Wood in Langcliffe near Settle and his name is engraved on the Langcliffe war memorial. He is buried at the Haifa War Cemetary in Haifa, Israel. If any body has any old photos or can remember him I would love to have more information from you

Private School
My late grandma went to a school called Overdale that was based in Settle in the early 1900s. She later married Edward Lord who used to sing. I am trying to find out more of this family, can anyone help?
