It was not until 1920 that the Corporation allowed band concerts in its parks on Sundays; they were light years behind many other towns and cities. Hymn singing in Sheffield's public parks was allowed on Whit Sundays, and in 1912 a special dispensation was granted for a memorial concert in aid of the Titanic Disaster Fund.
