Cabs await their next fares. Fares were set by the local authority: one shilling for the first mile and 6d for each additional half mile. Cabs could also be hired by the hour, the price varying on how many passengers were being carried. For 1-2 persons it was 2s, for 3-4 it was 2s 6d. Between midnight and 6am fares were charged at one and a half times the normal rate.
