More about this scene
For a couple of decades or so Sheffield's public parks became the focal point for local Whit-Sunday celebrations. It became something of a tradition on Whit-Sunday for workers and their families to dress up in their best (often their only clothes other than those for work), and make their way to one of the parks where they could join in community hymn singing.
