More about this scene
The view shows Digby Road and the Digby Hotel. This hotel was built by George Digby Wingfield Digby and it opened on Pack Monday, 11 October 1869. An Assembly Room was added in 1878. The Hotel was popular and a cab was even provided to transport guests from the railway, a distance of no more than a few hundred yards! The hotel was sold to the Saunders family in 1900 and they later opened a motor garage from the original stable block in Digby Road. When the hotel finally closed, it was bought by Sherborne School and recommenced life as a boarding house in 1962. The river in the foreground is the River Yeo.
