Simonsbath has the distinction of being Somerset's most westerly village. It lies in a wooded vale below desolate moorland, the source of the River Barle. Here, looking across the valley to the northeast, we can see the 19th-century St Luke's Church; in the centre, at the bottom of the valley, is the Exmoor Forest Hotel.
