More about this scene

Overlooking the river is a village green which dwindles into a pleasant riverside walk along the Hodder. Uphill from the bridge are stone cottages. The Black Bull Inn became the Youth Hostel, and the Dog Inn is now the Hark to Bounty. Pack horse trains from different directions met at this point, the heart of Slaidburn in past centuries. Slaidburn has two magnificent bridges, this one over the unpolluted River Hodder, and the other crossing Croasdale Beck.

The contract was to drill a tunnel ...see more
