Slyne, The Post Office Corner c.1955

More about this scene
The post office is on the far left, and immediately next door is A Shenton, dealing in baby linen and ladies' clothes. Taylors (centre) have a double-fronted shop, a sign that electrical goods and electricians are increasingly in demand. There is a recreation ground (right) and some motor traffic. Slyne, with Hest, also near Lancaster, saw Bonnie Prince Charlie's 1845 army of Scots passing on their way south. Hest Bank remains the starting point for Guide Cedric Robinson to lead groups safely across the treacherous quicksands of Morecambe Bay.
