Drayton Junior School Ealing
A Memory of South Beddington.
Hi my name is Geradine I have vivid memories of Drayton Junior School Ealing in the early seventies
I was approx 8/9years old and lived at St Leonards rd Ealing.Drayton Junior held fond memories. For me.I particularly remember friends such as; Michael Matthews,George. Bergin,Jane,Juanita and My best friend. Sharon who emigrated to Guyana. We had great fun but were all terrified. Of Mrs Knight.(she was a lunatic to say the least!)
When I was 11years old I moved to claygate rd Eating w.13 and went on to Gregg Grammar. School Mattock lane w.5 ,for most of the time it was pure misery! However, this was lightened by the fact that I had made some friends and at lunchtime. .we used to go to Woolworths and buy our lunch(the school didn't. Provide school dinners. We always bought their lively pasties. And soup. One day for a laugh we went to Bentalls store and took off all the wigs from the mannequins and threw them across the shop at each other.Silly but hilarious!
,I joined. The St Johns Ambulance cadets.I really enjoyed that. However,as part of our 'duty' we were asked to do a demonstration at (you guessed it Bentalls!)we were supposed to show the public c.p.r.on a life sized doll.a big crowd gathered and my friend.decided.that it would be better to lie the doll on the floor and with that she lay on top of it and pretended to French kiss the doll.needless to say we weren't asked back.We used to run into Ealing town hall just for a laugh.I can also remember the E2 /E3 bus fare being 4p wow how things have changed
I got a Saturday job at safeways Ealing Broadway but I didn't. Stay there too long.I left to work at the Hi -Tide fish and chip shop on Saturdays at Ealing Broadway45 years later I went back to visit. Its changed alot.Gregg Grammar School is no longer but Drayton Junior was.I am now a Grandmother of three and still have clear memories pf Ealing.
