South Ockendon

A Memory of South Ockendon.

We too lived on this street, half-way down on the left in fact. I remember the Spicers, I used to babysit Christopher.

Just found this site. I remember you glennis. I believe we used to play, as children, with beryl Lawrence, who lived on the corner. Do you remember the Richardson brothers who lived next door to her. Such happy memories. I lived at No. 82. Can remember it as if it was yesterday. Sometimes I wish I could go back.
Hi, can you tell me your name? Yes I remember Beryl and the Richardson brothers. Saw John Richardson a few years ago at a Lennard's reunion. You are right, happy memories.
Hi again. Sorry I forgot to mention my name. I was Brenda Chambers, until I married in1967. I had a sister Lindsey, five years younger than me, so maybe you wouldn't remember her. I also remember another good friend of mine, Marcia Duchane (can't remember the correct spelling). We were also at courts together. If I remember correctly, she would have lived almost opposite you. Do you remember her? We used to have such fun in the rec behind the boys prefab, and I was always walking up and down the street pushing their baby brother Peter in this huge pram. Funny the things you remember. I also remember we all use to rush out to the Dickie Birds ice cream van for the most delicious cream lollies ever made. The spearmint and chocolate were to die for. Never the same now. Do you remember? I think those days were amongst the best in my life. I now live in Somerset and recently widowed sadly. Are you still in that area? I never thought I would actually get a reply from anybody. So nice to hear from you, even if you don't remember me.
Hi Brenda, I do remember Marcia, she was a good friend of my sister Linda Wainwright. I lived at no. 44 next to Jennifer Barnes and family. Across the street was Stephanie Williams and her sister Judith (they emigrated to South Africa). Do you remember Gillian Waldron? I left England Nov 1966 for Vancouver, Canada where I lived and worked for two months before moving on the California. From there I moved to Hawaii where I have spent most of my life. I now live in Arizona.
Hi glennis, yes I remember Stephanie and Judith but I do not remember Gillian Waldron or Jennifer Barnes. I also forgot that you had a sister, Linda and I'm confused now because I don't know if it was you or your sister that I was friends with because Marcia was the same age as me and if she was a friend of Linda too then maybe it was her, but I definitely remember you. You sound well travelled. I imagine Hawaii would be a beautiful place to live. We travelled all over the world but never ventured to America, something I regret. My son lives in Thailand, haven't been there though. My daughter lives in Dorset and has given me three lovely grandsons, I live in a little stone cottage in Somerset but may be moving to be with her, now that I'm on my own (my husband John passed away recently). If it's not a nosey question do you have family? I have enjoyed recalling old times and people I knew. I always say we lived in the best time as children. The world is not a nice place to live now. We'd go over the bridge at ockendon station and go for miles across the fields on our adventures. You couldn't do that now. Such a happy childhood. Would be nice to keep in touch now and again. Do you know what happened to any of the friends and where they are now. Would love to know.
Hi Brenda, can you email me at glennis2@hotmail.com
